Subaru 2WD Conversion Kit - 6MT

Subaru 2WD Conversion Kit - 6MT

from A$215.00

Bremar Automotion has developed the necessary components required to convert a manual AWD Subaru gearbox to a 2WD transaxle suitable for use in mid mount engine applications. If you’re looking to do this conversion, then you’ve come to the right place…

The conversion kit is based on our successful 5MT kit, with additional shifter shaft cover that will work for the 6 speed split cases with the model number TY751/756 manual Subaru gearbox.

A splined locking spool replaces the centre diff and sends all drive torque to the gearbox’s front diff. A machined billet aluminium blanking plate replaces the rear section of the gearbox and really looks the part for exposed boxes. All kits come with a full set of installation instructions.

FAQ

Q: What gearbox will the kit fit

A: Any 6 speed split case with the model number TY751/756 manual Subaru gearbox.

It WILL NOT fit the TY85 model 6 speed or auto boxes.

Our customers have fitted the kit to WRX, Liberty GT, and Forestor GT gearboxes from late 90′s to mid 00 models. If you find a box it doesn’t fit, we’ll give you a full refund.

Q: What gearbox should I use?

A: The simple answer is the later, the better. Later model boxes will generally have less km on them, and from around 2004 there were changes to the casings to reduce flex and keep better alignment of shafts and gears. Look around the net and there’s plenty of specialist Subaru websites and forums out there that can provide you with more info.

Q: How much power will the kit handle?

A: We know of race cars running our kit with 240kW at the wheels with no problems.

Q: Will the gearbox be strong enough?

A: It really depends on your application, and ultimately, how you treat your box. Generally, cars running this kit will be much lighter than the Subaru that the box has come from so the box will be less stressed than the standard application. Also, now being 2WD, the tyres are more likely to break traction than in AWD form, where the car maintains grip and loads the gearbox up. And in the unlikely event that you do need a stronger box, there’s plenty of billet gear sets available for the 5 speeds that are near bullet proof.

Q: Do you sell a shifter linkage for a midmount powertrain?

A: No, due to the varied number of installations, it’s pretty much impossible to develop a generic shifter solution to suit all applications.
